Working with telepresence robots

Being there without being there: Working with telepresence robots

Geographically distributed work is now a central part of modern working life and offers many advantages, but it also brings new challenges. These include reduced situational awareness, limited mobility, and the feeling of not being fully integrated into the team. Telepresence robots offer the potential to overcome these hurdles. They make it possible to “be there without being there physically.” Technically, they consist of a tablet on a mobile platform that visually represents the remotely connected person and can be controlled remotely.

As part of Data Week, we invite you to learn about this form of collaboration and try it out for yourself.

We offer the following formats:

Live study: Work together with another person in a mixed-presence team – one person on site, one person via a telepresence robot – on two collaborative tasks. Short questionnaires and a brief interview will be conducted before and after participation.

Video feedback: Watch an application video on working with telepresence robots and share your assessment of the potential, challenges, and effects of this technology. Contribute your perspective and discuss the future of location-independent collaboration in science and practice with us.
