Open-source dashboards for climate resilience and international data usage – hands-on with Apache Superset in the Horizon Europe project GRACE (conducted by aconium GmbH)

- | Room 260 | German

Elisabeth Fürst (aconium GmbH) and Daniel Yanev (aconium GmbH)

How can climate data be processed in such a way that it really has an impact? In the EU project GRACE (Growing Climate Resilience in Remote Rural Areas through Community Empowerment), European partners are working to strengthen the climate resilience of rural regions with the help of freely accessible data and digital technologies. In this workshop, participants will create their own open, interactive dashboard and learn step by step how to make meaningful use of publicly available maps and specialist data. This includes geodata from OpenStreetMap (OSM) – a global, collaboratively maintained free map platform – as well as supplementary factual information such as climate or population data. We will demonstrate in a practical way how freely available data can be turned into understandable visualizations and why the conscious use of data is more important than the tool used. Using Apache Superset, participants gain insights into open-source visualization, international data use, and the role of dashboards in climate-resilient, data-driven decision-making processes. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own computers to the workshop. The necessary data sets will be provided in advance by the organizers.

Strengthening cybersecurity in associations (Track: Between commitment and algorithm; Cybersecurity Dialogue of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI))

- | Room 260 | German

Clubs, too, are increasingly exposed to risks in their daily digital lives: even minor lapses in attention—such as a wrong click or the accidental sharing of sensitive data—can lead to security incidents and data loss. This is where the Cybersecurity Dialogue comes in: we show how it is possible to work safely and confidently on and with the internet, even in hectic moments, without in-depth IT knowledge. The workshop is aimed specifically at members and leaders of clubs and civil society organizations.

Specific topics include:

  • What risks are clubs particularly exposed to?

  • Where are the key levers for defense?

  • How can a security culture be fostered within the club using the “White Card”?

Special focus will be placed on challenges such as secure passwords, phishing, and fraud attempts, among others. Together, we will develop ideas during the workshop for a secure digital everyday life within the club. The workshop will be led by members of the “White Card” working group from the Dialogue for Cybersecurity. The members of the working group are committed to motivating society toward greater cybersecurity and recognizing exemplary behavior.

Using organizational knowledge in a participatory and digital way with an organizational wiki - Part 1 (Track: Between engagement and algorithm)

- | Room 260 | German

Dr. Romy Woehlert (KINDERVEREINIGUNG Leipzig e.V.)

Using organizational knowledge with an organizational wiki: This workshop focuses on the use of an organizational wiki for recording, revising, and making work-related knowledge available across an organization that is oriented toward the common good. KINDERVEREINIGUNG Leipzig shares its experience and knowledge regarding the introduction and use of a wiki in internal work processes. Technical, organizational, and human aspects are taken into account. Challenges and possible solutions for successfully dealing with them are presented.

In the second part, participants have the opportunity to develop a wiki concept for their own organization in an interactive and methodically guided manner and to reflect on their designs with the other participants.
